My WW1 Connection.

Yesterday was memorial day and today I decided to see what I could find on my Great-Grandfather's Service Record from World War One. Vernon Vain Veysey was less than a week from turning 23 years old in 1915, and thought the US was taking too long to enter the Great War. So, he took a trip across the border into Canada and up to Calgary. After just seconds on the webpages of Library and Archives Canada, I found his enlistment papers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force, which he signed exactly 96 years ago today.

There it all is, in his handwriting! I want to take thank the staff at Library and Archives Canada for taking the time to digitize these documents in order to give not only the citizens of Canada but also of the world the opportunity to feel closer to history & to their families, whom they may never had a chance to meet.

I saw your comment on Epbot and noticed that you're in Tacoma, Wa (I'm in Olympia myself). I wasn't sure how else to get you this message so I figured I'd just comment on one of your blogs or something. But I wanted to direct you to some steampunk things going on in the area.

On October 14th-16th of 2011 is Steamcon III in Seattle, WA.

There is also a group of steampunks in Seattle that meets fairly often. They are called the Seattle Steamrats. You're also more than welcome to meet up with our steampunk group down here in Olympia, WA. We're called the Olympia Gaslight Guardians and we meet on the first saturday of every month. If you're on facebook you can look up both groups on there. Aside from meeting once a month we also like to do other things like crafts and play games or go on little field trips to places. In september we will be having croquet and tea at one of the local parks.

This is also happening at the end of this month in Seattle, WA:

I hope this helps.
